Base Camp Trips

Enjoy a day of activities in this magnificent area and come back in the afternoon to our beautiful base camp at Dionisio canyon where you will relax in a hammock, watch the sunset, gaze at the stars around a campfire and spend the night in a comfortable and spacious tent under avocado and mango trees.

We offer 1, 2 or 3 night base camp trips that allow you to explore the area and be immersed in this unique paradise south of La Paz

Each day we will explore a different canyon during the day with some activities besides the hike, including biking, swimming, in the fantastic natural pools, cliff jumping, pizza party, mango margaritas, pottery, kayaking in the oasis and dinner with a local family where you will learn to do tortillas!

Trekking Trip - Sierra Traverse

An intense 5 day backpacking traverse of the Biosphere Reserve Sierra la Laguna, the hike starts in Santiago town, on the east side of the mountain, close to sea level and takes us to 6,600 ft of altitude—the highest point in the sierra, from where you can contemplate both seas, the pacific sea and the gulf of California. We come down through the west side, finishing in Todos Santos.

This hike offers plenty of opportunities to observe endemic species of flora and fauna as you pass through the different ecosystems of the sierra, ranging from tropical dry forest to the oak and pine forest found at higher elevations.

The area it has been described as an "ecological treasure-house" because its unique and fragile ecosystem  and the large diversity of endemic flora and fauna species.

Day 1 - Arrival to Santiago town and warm up hike around the fanatastic canyons and pools around Santiago.

Day 2 - Hike half way up. 6-8 hours of intense hike up hill

Day 3 - Arrive to the so called “Laguna” in the heart of the pine forest, once upon a time, according to local legends, filled with water, 4 hours up hill. Afternoon hike to Picacho, 4+ hours round trip

Day 4 - Day hike to the highest point of the Sierra - Cerro de San Antonio, 5 hours of hiking.

Day 5 - Down hill to the Pacific side, 5-6 hours down hill. Car ride to Todos Santos.

We can customize this trip according to your times and preferences and can be done even in 3 very intense days.

What to bring:

  • Sleeping bag for 22 F, nights at the top can get very cold

  • Hat, sun screen, long sleeve for sun protection

  • Small back pack to carry water and lunch while hiking

  • Hiking shoes, warm down jacket, warm hat

  • Small pillow

  • All your gear and clothes in a duffel bag to be pack on the mule

Any gear you are not using during the trip can stay with us and will be brought to todos Santos.
